    During the intellisnap process;

    1-VSA communicates with the hypervisor;

    2-Hypervisor communicates with the VMs to quiesce the disks

    3-Hypervisor (vmware / hyper-v) etc initiate the software snapshots

    4-MA then takes hardware based snapshots

    5-Software snapshots are deleted

    6- VMs are backed uo through hypervisor proxy.

    My questions is related to step five on the deletion process.

    - Does the MA sends the command so that the hypervisor can creates the snaps? If so, I would assume that is based on the type of CV client?

    - Where can I have a reference for some of these background commands sent by the MAs?

    - How does the hypervisor knows that it has to delete the software based snaps?

    The VSA has the VDDK from vmware, based on the programming guide you can create scripts to create and delete soft snaps.

    For example:

    String SnapshotName = "Backup";
    String SnapshotDescription = "Temporary Snapshot for Backup";
    boolean memory_files = false;
    boolean quiesce_filesystem = true;
    ManagedObjectReference taskRef = serviceConnection.getservice().CreateSnapshot_Task(vmMoRef, SnapshotName, SnapshotDescription, memory_files, quiesce_filesystem);

    The hypervisor knows when to remove the snapshot because the Commvault VSA tells it when to delete.
