  • Can I change the SA password????

We are in the process of upgrading to version 8.0 SP4. We ran the upgrade in our lab and during the Database upgrade it asks for the SQL "sa" password of the database. Problem is, ex employee is the only one who knew that password. Embarassed So we were wondering, can we change the sa password to something we know, and how (if at all) will that impact out CommVault environment? I can t imagine it would, since its a service account to maintenace the SQL database.  But I figured I would ask....

    Hi JimStrong_IPCO,

I believe you can change this by going to SQL Server Management Studio >>>Security >>>

Logins >>>> then right click on user sa and select Properties.  You should be able to change the password there.

    Thanks,

    Hello Jim,

You should be able to change the SA password to anything you like and it will not impact commserve operations.

In support we see this issue from time to time and our suggestions is to log into SQL>Security and reset the password which allows the upgrade to complete.
