  • How many streams per VSA proxy?

Just wondering, for those of you using VSA with VADP, how many backup streams are you configuring on your proxy agents?  We have 4 ESX hosts with about 220 VMs total.  Currently have 4 VSA proxies with 2 streams configured on each proxy.  Anyone using more streams than that per agent, or seen any performance gains via tweaking the number of streams?

Depending on how I/O bound the ESX datastores already are, if these VMs are scattered across multiple datastores and the VSA is configured for the most part to load balanace across the DS, increasing the streams may net better results (again this is dependant on many things).

I would say slowly increment the streams/readers up to something like 4 to ensure the ESX server/datastores are not effected by the multiple concurrent snapshots (remember changes are being cached while active snapshots exist)
