  • Installing updates to client servers through Comcell Console: CS cache is corrupt?
    Posted: 11-01-2010, 3:13 PM

    Hello,

I've been successfully installing updates to our client servers through the Comcell console successfully but now when I try to install updates to any of them I get the following error in the Job Controller window:

"It appears that the CS cache is corrupt, delete the cache, download updates and try again."

I've rebooted both the client systems and the backup server itself and I still get the error message.

When I logged directly into the backup server it notified of an available update when I logged into the console, which I installed, still get the error when I try to update.

So how exactly do I delete the DS cache?

I've had major issues with updates/cache in the past and I need to make sure I do this as elegantly as possible.

Thanks in advance for all advise.

goto automatic updates in the control panel and find the location of the updates cache. at that location delete either the CVUpdates or UpdatesCache folder (depending on what version of CV created the original). download a new set of updates through the GUI.

@FCSS - Please navigate to the updates directory (usually c:\Program Files\Commvault\Simpana\updatesCache

    rename the CVUpdates folder

once this is done you can run a download updates job to re-populate the update Cache

    Thanks for the quick response.

I've used two methods to install updates: Help - Check for updates and r-click on client/all tasks/install updates.

It immediately tells me there are no updates available when I try the first method and the second method produces the same error.

    What am I missing here?

    Good afternoon,

Did you rename the CVUpdates directory?  Once that is done, run DownloadUpdates and a new CVUpdates directory will be recreated and the latest Service Pack and critical updates will be pulled down.

Ahh ok there are executables in the Simpana subdirectories.

I found the exe, ran it, a black command-prompt-like windows briefly shows up and goes away.

No 'UpdatesCache' directory gets recreated. :/

    sorry?

can you delete or rename the CVUpdates or UpdatesCache folder and rerun the download? if the subsequent download fails, can you post the downloadupdates.log from the commserve?

    thanks.

The log info from this morning in the downloadupdates.log file is below.

If I'm reading it correctly it looks as though it just isn't establishing a connection toautoupdate.commvault.com.

Also, I have verified that there are no policies that would be blocking ftp access from this server.

    File content below. Thanks!

That is correct. It would appear that you are not communicating to our ftp site. I suggest to make sure that Windows firewall is turned off. If it is on, turn it off and try again. If WFW is off, you will need to open a support ticket for further investigation into why you are not connecting to the server.

run the following commands from the root of C: in the command prompt to test connectivity with the FTP site. if it is successful, you will have downloaded the 32 bit SP5 which should be able to run once completed.

    ftp qupdate.commvault.com
    username: patchadd
    password: marImba!
    cd CVUpdates
    cd 8.0.0
    cd Windows
    cd ServicePacks

    bin

    get SP5.exe
