We keep getting this error while trying to perform a full backup

"remote end has closed network connection unexpectedly"

The job will go to pending status, and then retry a bit later (10-30 minutes later). This only seems to be happening during the day, so I am assuming it is caused by users accessing the volume that is being backed up causes the backup to stop. Is this expected behavior or is there some way around this? This only gives us around 8 hours to backup at night when everyone is out of the office which isn't enough time for a full backup.

Client (iDataAgent) being backed up is Ubuntu 10 which is connected to a large RAID via an iSCSI connection (the RAID is the volume being backed up). Users also have access to files on the RAID via a Samba share. The Linux client communicates to the CommServe over our internal network. Using Simpana 8 sp4.

    Good afternoon,

Is it possible to load Service Pack 5 on the CommServe, MediaAgent and Client machines to see if one of the updates corrects this behavior?

Yes, I will try to do that soon, the only reason it wasn't performed yet was it hadn't showed up under the automatic updates.

    Good evening,

If you run DownloadUpdates via the GUI, Service Pack 5 will be pulled down automatically.

I got the service pack installed, and started a new backup at 5pm when people were starting to leave (but still a few users). It ran fine for a few hours, then got errors all night. Then around 9am this morning is started working again. Perhaps it isn't related to user activity on the drive as this time it only appeared to work when there was users. Any ideas? Same error every time "remote end has closed network connection unexpectedly".

    Hello,

Are there any FWs between these machines or running locally on the Client?

    Hello Sam,

This issue can be resolved in several ways, but in order to identify the real issue we will need to look into the logs to determine if you are experiencing a space issue on the UBUNTU server or if filtering some directories can help. If you have some time please create a ticket make sure you specify my name Tony Sosa and I will make sure to review the logs and find out what is going on and resolve the issue in a timely manner.

    Thanks
