    Configuration: CommVault Simpana 8 SP3

After installing SP5 on the CommVault server everything works fine, but after a reboot the CVD.EXE service cannot start anymore. Error:

Communications Service failed to start: (Unable to Initialize the CVD Message Handler)

The CommCell GUI cannot be started. Looked in the updatelog files and  it apears the problem is in de cvpostmessage.dll file. After i copied an old cvpostmessage.dll the CVD service can be started. Is this a known problem?

    File properties:

    cvpostmessage.dll SP5: 35kb 4/2/2009 2:16 PM version: 8.0.68.18907

    cvpostmessage.dll SP3: 34kb 12/3/2008 4:43 PM version: 8.0.68.0

    Kind regards,

    Hans Hegeman

    Hans,

I would recommend logging a Support ticket for this issue.  I would like to see what is occurring with this particular dll file.

    Incident: 101118-000189.

CommVault has viewed teh problem with a WebEx session and there were problems with the 19007 patch. Files were uploaded and they will research the problem. For now , the old cvpostmessage.dll works fine.

Thanks for the ticket info.  Development is still trying to figure out why this file is getting locked.  I will follow up with the assigned engineer to ensure they follow the workaround steps.
