The metadata collection is the phase of the backup where CV tries to index all the files on the VM so you can do file level restores from the full VM backup.   If you are not interested in being able to restore individual files from the VM backup, you can disable the option to collect the metadata.  This is set in the backup schedule.

If this is the only guest that gives you this error, then it seems that there is something unique with the way the guest has formated that volume.

    Good Luck

This is fine .You can browse the granular data using mediaagent using live recovery until it is windows vm for which meta data collection failed

You can add registry key in additional settings of proxy server so that commvault ignores the error and marks job as completed

When you get to 11 metadata collection is not enabled by default for new schedules so the live browse is used automatically. This should cut down on some of the overhead for the backups as metadata collection can take time to collect.

"Note: The Enable Granular Recovery option is not required for file browse and restore operations. For VMware, this option is disabled by default for new backups or backup schedules created in SP4 or later."
