We are looking at replacing tapes with cloud storage. What this means that instead on the data going to tapes, we will push this out to a cloud based storage location.

One of the reason for this is the high cost of tapes and the number we are using.

To work out the amount of storage required to replace these tapes, is there a report that can tell me the amount of backup that is stored on these tapes? Also the number of tapes and their retention period.

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

    Thanks

    Hi aaronsalkeld

If you are considering to use Cloud and want to get a general idea of the capacity consumption of the Tape Copy, you can review the current copy for Tape and add up the "Total Data Written to Disk" to get a general idea of consumption when writing to Tape (but this will include compression).

Likewise when writing to Cloud if you are considering to use Deduplication the amount of space will also be less as Deduplication and Compression will need to be taken into account.

    Regards

    Winston

I found the " storage information report" under Commcell - Reports - other Reports has the right information you need.

You could configure the report only contain your tape library(ies)  and the out put will have the total size, size of each tape, retaintion period of each tapes and location of each tapes( if you configured before)

Hope this could help you sizing the cloud storage.
