I receive a request from my comp to have another copy of my backups over to offsite. This applies to only full backups of critical applications. Off site meaning it could be to the cloud or we will rent a data center and setup a server there.

Do I need to setup a whole new commserv? Or just a media agent? My current capacity license doesn't limit how many media agent I can have.

My challenge now is how my commserv can communicate to the offisite media agent. Opening up my commserv server ports to incoming connection from internet poses a security risk, does anyone knows how can I handle this?

Basen the requirement, you might need to consider configuring a WAN link/Firewall between the Onsite CommServe & MediaAgent to the Cloud/Offsite MediaAgent.

By doing so, you will bypass writing directly over the public internet.

Further to the above, you can also select only specific ports to add another layer of security.

Otherwise another consideration is to setup a Proxy as an interim device between Onsite Server and the offsite MediaAgent -
