    Hey,

    I have a problem with a client.

The backup failed with this message :

"Number of restarts has exceeded the maximum number allowed [12]"

I have increased the number of restarts (save is ok), but I would like to know the root cause.

In the Job events I have this messages :

Major 80,618,534 8,193,231 8/5/2019 1:40:02 AM clBackupParent cnspu 6:12 Job Status notification failed. Please check the following: 1. CommServe connectivity 2. Services are running on client and the CommServe. Attempt to restart.

Major 80,618,524 8,193,231 8/5/2019 1:40:00 AM clBackupChild cnspu 6:22 Backup pending: failed to close Metadata file for error [-1]. Please check the following: 1. CommServe and MediaAgent connectivity 2. Services are running on client, CommServe and the MediaAgent. Attempting to restart.

The messages indicates a communication issue, but all is OK ( check readiness is OK, telnet on the port 8400 between Media server and client in the both side is OK)

You can find the logs in attachment, maybe you will see something :)

    Regards,

    Johann

Increasing the attempts won't do anything. I see an issue with the resolution of the hostname. If you aren't sure where to go from here please open a support ticket.

    Thank for the answer Liam.

The hosts files on the client, on the media server and on the commserve are good :

    172.20.71.80    cnspu.sav.outsourcing.bull.net

The client hostname is good :

    root@cnspu:/# Calypso status

    --------------------------------- Instance001 ---------------------------------

    [ General ]

     Version = 10(BUILD116) SP11

     CommServe = azt-sav-b1

     Home Directory = /calypso/calypso/Base

     Log Directory = /calypso/calypso/Log_Files

     Core Directory = /calypso/calypso

     Temp Directory = /calypso/calypso/Base/Temp

     Platform Type = 4

     Cvd Port Number = 8400

     EvMgrC Port Number = 8402

    [ Package ]

     1002/CVGxBase 10(BUILD116) = File System Core

     1101/CVGxIDA 10(BUILD116) = File System

     1112/CVGxDC 10(BUILD116) = Data Classification Enabler

      - Cache Root Directory = /calypso/calypso/iDataAgent/jobResults/cvdccache

     1113/CVGxFSF 10(BUILD116) = File System Filter Driver

     1204/CVGxOrIDA 10(BUILD116) = Oracle iDataAgent

    [ Physical Machine/Cluster Groups ]

     Display Name = cnspu

      - Client Hostname = cnspu.sav.outsourcing.bull.net

      - Job Results Directory = /calypso/calypso/iDataAgent/jobResults

This server has been backed up for years, and the problem appear just after the migration from v10 to v11...

    Very strange.

    Regards,

    Johann

    Hi Johann

From the output of the commvault status on this machine its still on V10 SP11, is there any chance to also upgrade the client to V11 and see if the issue still exist?

    Regards

    Winston
