    Hi everyone

I have jobs with global deduplication.

I would like to save the ddb database in other place.

How can I create auxiliary copy to backup up the ddb database?

    Thanks

The other place will need to meet MediaAgent specifications and performance requirements.  Create a new Global Deduplication database in the other place.

There are a numbr of good video guide on storage polices online, such as https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=81orGU8mXa4.

    Hi Alexandre

For the DDB backup this is only needed when the DDB is corrupted, where a DDB recon is required as it will restore the DDB (filesystem) to a point in time, and then read from the Disk Library to rebuild.

In saying that you would always want the latest DDB backup when doing a DDB Recon. Technically there is no point in Aux Copying the DDB backup to another copy (as DDB backup are not deduplicated), you will be utilizing additional space on another copy.

Note - in the worst case sceanrio where you don't have a good DDB backup, the DDB recon process (known as Full DDB Recon) can still rebuild the DDB by reading the references/signatures from Disk Library

    Regards

    Winston

    Hi All,

You can allow the auxiliary copy for deduplication database backup jobs.  To enable this

    1. Open the Control Panel > Media Management Configuration
    2. Select the Auxiliary Copy Tab
    3. Set the option Allow auxiliary copy for deduplication database backup jobs to 1

    As per https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=11015.htm

Please note DDB backups do not follow the retention settings on the associated storage policy copy. By default the DDB backup job is pruned if it does not hold the latest backup of any active DDB. However, you can configure the Option to retain extra DDB backups for every partition parameter to retain multiple DDB backups for each partition.
    Please see https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=12504.htm
