We are testing a capability for a customer that wants to use Commvault. What we want to be able to do is this:

    1. Backup to a Disk Library in Site A

    2. Via underlying replication topologies this Disk Library will be replicated to Site B

    3. If Site A is offline, add the Disk Library at Site B to the Commcell

    4. Catalog/Re-Index the data in the Disk Library at Site B and restore data from it

Is this possible with Commvault? I haven't found any way that I can catalog/index a Disk Library for existing backups.

I understand Commvault has capabilities to write/replicate the data to multiple locations, but for this specific requirement we need to assume Commvault cannot do this. The Disk Library will be replicated offsite by other means, but if the primary disk library is unavailable we need to be able to mount the Site B Library via a UNC Path and at least have the ability to be able to restore data.

    Thanks.

    Case 1: CommServe is available

    1. Have a MediaAgent at site B and share the mount path as read only with the path pointing to site B disk library path.

    2. Restores should work using this MA from site B library.

Case 2: CommServe is also down

Option 1: If you have a DR node at site B then bring it up and follow case 1 steps.

Option 2: If CommServe DB available build CommServe and follow case 1 steps.

Option 3: Only disk library available and no CommServe DB then we can use MediaExplorer to restore data for couple of supported agents including CommServe DR backup if it’s on the same disk library.

I would recommend to protect CommServe DR backups to network path at site B or use Commvault cloud or someother cloud, so that you can build CommServe at site B if your entire site A is down.
