    Hi all,

Aux copies are hitting our disks pretty hard, and I'm looking for the best ways to throttle them.  Can I network-throttle the disk reads of the libraries if I switch from sharing via UNC to DataServer IP?

Are the source and destination MediaAgents' for the Aux Copies the same?

    Hi Anthony,

We use three media agents with direct-attached storage in a GridStor configuration, where each Media Agent can read from, but not write to, the others' storage via UNC.  So... some streams yes, some streams no.

Hi Sheree, thanks but what I am wondering is if the Source and Destination of the Aux Copy is the same GridStor DiskLibrary?

    Hi Sheree

One possible option that you can look into is to limit the amount of streams that is available to the Disk Library (but this will also limit the amount of writes when writing backups)

There are other options such as Network Throttling and Secondary Copy (Aux Copy throttling), but these options only throttle at the Network level and does not reduce the amount of potential reads the MediaAgent will do.

Furthermore are these Mount Paths (Local or UNC base), you will only use Data Server IP if you have local volumes presented to a single MediaAgent which you would like to share to other MediaAgent (Levergaing Commvault's 3dnfs service which makes the primary MA like a NFS Server and Mount request is done via NFS).

You can also consider lowering the amount of streams for your Aux Copy and see if that helps

    Hi Anthony,

    No--the destination is S3.

    Hi Winston,

I'm sharing the mount paths via UNC. Are there advantages to using DataServer IP, versus UNC?

Hi Sheree, do those three Media Agents write direct to S3 or is there a MediaAgent reserved for the S3 bucket?

    Hi Gary,

    That nCloudGlobalUploadThreadPoolMaxCount setting looks interesting--thanks!
