Does the backup of NTFS compressed files and folders cause any sort of extra performance hit?

I know NTFS in general causes some processor load due to its uncompressing and recompressing but my plan is to run file compression on all files not modified in the last X years.

Should mean that the extra processor load won't really apply because the files are not modified that often?  Archiving isn't an option at the moment so i'm just looking for ways to reduce the dead wood.

I suppose i should check if  AV decompress/recompress's to scan too...

No performance hit as CV will backup the data in compressed format.  There is an option to decompress in the event your restore target may be a non compressed drives

    From BOL:

By default, data is backed up in compressed format if the data is on a volume that supports compression.
