    Environment:
    Vcenter 5/ESXi 5
    Commserver 9 SP5a
    VSA v9 SP5a / vddk5

    Equallogic firmware 5.2.1 ( PS6000)/ Latest HITKIT

Additional info: Snapprotect is enabled on the backup

    Questions:

    1. When running the backup job, Vmware creates snapshot twice? Is this normal behavior?

When disabling snapprotect Vmware only creates one snapshot once

    Logs from the vsbkp.log shows:

The backup actually completes but it generates an error message on the VSA/proxy server

I assume this is a single ISCSI datastore, with 2 Vms on it (the two snaps are 1 per vm)

I get the same messages in my event logs when the initiator reaches out.  I do have other inactive targets set there which one of them is actually the path throwing the error.

    Hi All,

There is only one VM associated to the datastore.  I was told that if the VM you are backing up is

running Windows 2008 R2  with disk.uuid enabled this is normal behavior.  Is this correct?  How

about the error message generated in Windows event logs and also from the Equallogic is this

normal or is there a hotfix for this?

yes for windows 2008 vm with disk.uuid enabled in vmware commvault will take multiple snapshot  because the vmware will do application quience internally if these options are selected so a consistent snapshot needs a second snap.

this message is harmless as we try to reset the flag before the disk becoming online.

The device, \Device\Harddisk8\DR9, is not ready for access yet.

Microsoft has provided a lot of hot fixes for the VDS crash but commvault does the same operation
as a rescan kicked of from disk mgmt.

    Description:
Unexpected provider failure. Restarting the service may fix the problem. Error code: 80070037@02000014

in Dell equalogic we have seen this error because dell equalogic was not recognising the volume properties option to allow multiple initiators to login.
this happens because VSA proxy and esx tries to login at the same time.
it is expected to allow login from multiple initators to Snap to confirm the above issue a error event would also be found in dell equalogic saying multiple initiator attempts was not honored.
if SAn mode is not required then if ISCSI is disabled in VSA proxy this even should not occur.

    Description:
Login request failed. The login response packet is given in the dump data.

please make sure the below hot fix is in place

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2692929

and also disable DC service if running on the VSa proxy machine by setting below regkeys.

       |     |- ServiceEnabled: REG_DWORD: value :0
